Population Assessment for Tomorrow’s Health Study (PATH)

Addictive disorders, such as alcohol use disorder, nicotine dependence, illicit drug addiction and pathological gambling, are among the most widespread psychiatric disorders in Canada and around the world. Approximately one in five Canadians experience addiction over their lifetime.

About

The PATH registry’s purpose is to gather information from volunteers, with or without addiction problems, to develop a cohort for future research studies, which will help further our understanding of the causes, consequences and treatment of individuals with addiction disorder.

Participants

Who can participate?

  1. Men and women between the ages of 18 – 65
  2. A resident of Greater Hamilton area
  3. Able to complete the registry requirement

What is involved?

  1. Complete some questionnaires: general personal health and lifestyle questions. I.e., questions on previous medical problems, overall well-being and medicines you are taking.
  2. Simple physical measurements
  3. Provide saliva sample for DNA testing. You will have the option to gain access to your personal genetic information such as genetic report on your traits, health and ancestry from 23andMe, Inc. at no cost.

Confidentiality

We will use ID numbers so that there are no personal identifiers for the information collected from you.

Cost

Your participation will not involve any costs to you or your health insurer. We will provide you with parking or bus voucher and a gift card of $30 as a token of appreciation for your participation.
